Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge occupies the southern end of Virginia Beach along the barrier island coast. The refuge is managed primarily for migratory waterfowl and offers some of the best duck and goose hunting on the Atlantic Flyway during designated hunt days. Deer hunting is also available through a managed archery program to control the herd. The refuge's combination of beach, dune, marsh, and freshwater impoundment habitats creates outstanding biodiversity.
