WMA · Clarke, Fauquier · Piedmont Virginia

G. Richard Thompson WMA straddles the Blue Ridge crest between Clarke and Fauquier counties and is famous for its spectacular spring wildflower displays, particularly trillium. The area provides deer and turkey hunting on steep mountain terrain with mature hardwood forests. Its proximity to the DC metro area results in high hunting pressure, especially during firearms season. The Appalachian Trail traverses the property, creating some user conflicts during peak hiking season.
