Gathright WMA surrounds Lake Moomaw in the mountains of Bath and Alleghany counties. The area provides diverse hunting opportunities from deer and turkey in the hardwood forests to waterfowl on the lake itself. Bear hunting is productive along the steep ridges above the reservoir. The lake and surrounding infrastructure also make it a popular destination for camping and fishing outside hunting season.
